The Pain Management Services of Dr. Lipton is a consultative service that offers both inpatient as well as outpatient services at a nearby clinic. The service is available daily. Please note to always write pain orders on your patients as bridging orders until the pain service sees your patient. We encourage the use of the Multimodal “Pain Management” order set within EPIC to do so, and a primer on its use is included as an attachment as well.
Preoperative Consultations
Surgeons, outpatient pain specialists, psychiatrists and internists may refer high risk patients based on their medical conditions, psychiatric history, chronic pain issues and substance abuse history to consult with our pain management team prior to surgery. Please contact Dr. Lipton’s office directly to schedule a preoperative consultation. His office will manage coordination with the inpatient pain management team as well as the intraoperative anesthesiologist on the day of surgery. Prior to discharge from the hospital, if necessary, these patients will have follow up visits scheduled with Dr. Lipton to help ensure continuity of care.
For patients who already have pain physicians other than those at St. John’s, every effort should be made to have them seen preoperatively by their own pain doctors whenever possible. The pain doctors at St. John’s will manage them as inpatients, and upon discharge, refer them back to his or her initial pain doctor.
Please also note that the other pain doctors of St. John’s remain active and are listed below with their office numbers:
Dr. Gerald Sacks: (310) 264-7314
Dr. Akash Bajaj: (424) 309-1346
Dr. Rick Rubin: (310) 612-6589
